| | EASTERN INSPIRATION - Michael James, chair of Textiles, Clothing and Design, will exhibit quilts designed for his "Daybook" series and inspired by recent trips to China and Korea. The exhibit, which includes this quilt, "Walking Samcheong-dong," is open March 26 to April 26 at Modern Arts Midwest, 800 P St.
| James is chair of UNL's Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design.
The exhibit, open through April 26, includes works from James' "Daybook" series and pieces inspired by recent trips to China and Korea. In the "Daybook" series, James focuses on exploring tensions between natural and built environments. The China- and Korea-based work is based on James' impressions from walks through neighborhoods and gardens in Shanghai and Seoul.
"The Life in a day" exhibit builds on James' interest in pattern, texture and color. His work aims to push the medium of the quilt beyond conventions.
Modern Arts Midwest is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, or by appointment at 477-2828. For more information, go to www.modernartsmidwest.com.
