Gomez, Thomas thesis exhibitions open Nov. 17

A Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition featuring the photography of Kimberly Thomas and an exhibition featuring the work of Peggy Gomez open Nov. 17 and continue through Dec. 5.
A reception for both exhibitions will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in the gallery.
Gomez’s exhibition is “Have a Good Life, No Really” and utilizes both two- and three-dimensional mixed-media collage. Her work incorporates a collection of images, including propellers, bug splats, zeppelins, bicycle parts, frogs and more.

Gomez received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art in 1985 from UNL and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis. She owns and operates Gomez Art Supply and is the co-founder of Lincoln’s Tugboat Gallery.
Thomas’s exhibition is “Decay of the Domestic.” The abandoned homes portrayed in these photographs are not the result of a large-scale natural or man-made disaster. These homes are scattered throughout the small towns and rural areas of several Midwest states. They have remained after their inhabitants left.

Thomas will receive her Master of Fine Arts degree in December. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Missouri State University. She has been an active member of Visual Artists in Practice.
In 2008, she received the Graduate Student Leadership Award from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board.
